Grillo is a white grape of Sicily that is growing in popularity and plantings.  The wines are medium intensity with aromas and flavors of lemon and blossom with high acid, fuller body and medium alcohol.

Grillo is a versatile and refreshing wine that is often blended with other local Sicilian varieties such as Inzolia and Catarratto or with chardonnay or even Viognier.  The Sicilia DOC added a specific category for Grillo and Viognier blends.

Grillo is the second most planted white grape in Sicily behind Catarratto and is a natural crossing of Catarratto and Moscato.

Most versions of Grillo are protectively made in the winery to avoid unwanted oxidation and released for early consumption.  Marco de Bartoli breaks the rules with an oaked, high quality and premium wine but most will be Good to Very Good and relatively inexpensive wines to buy.
