Region: Sicily / Sicilia
Quality Level in EU/Italian Wine Law: Multiple DOC of Sicily, Terre Siciliane IGT
Primary Grape Varieties: Catarratto
Food Pairings: Seafood, vegetable pasta
Catarratto is the most planted white grape of Sicily and can be very high yielding. Quality can be raised if the yield is managed but the wines are basic in nature and only vaguely interesting. Sicilia DOC requires 60% for labeling Catarratto Bianco and most wines are blends of Grillo, Catarratto and Inzolia.
The grape was primarily used in Marsala wines.
