Primary Grape Varieties:  Nero di Troia, AKA - Uva di Troia
The general DOC covers multiple local and international grape varieties with most produced in varietal form of 90% or greater of the selected grape.  White, red, rosato and sparkling wines are produced in the AVA.


Characteristics:  
The wines express the grape variety in the DOC wines.

The Castel del Monte Nero di Troia DOCG wines are generally high in tannin and are fresh only when young.  They quickly become dense and complex with juniper, licorice and a velvety texture.  The wines finish dry.

Pair with: The wines are produced for drinking with local food.  In the US they pair well with pizza and hamburgers.

The Nero di Troia grape has no connection to the ancient city of Troy
